Brief History of the College

The Bulacan State University College of Education came into being in 1967 with the initial course of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) with major courses in Drafting, Machine Shop Practice, Automotive, and Woodworking. Enrollment was purposely limited then due to the policy of the College not to graduate more than what schools in Bulacan and the neighboring provinces could absorb. The first batch of graduates was composed of 17 members with Dr. Mariano de Jesus who graduated cum laude.

The Teacher Education Program evolved to become the School of Education which offered in addition to BSIE, the courses Bachelor   of   Secondary Education (BSEd) and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) with various fields of specialization.

The Teacher Education Department was headed by Ms. Francisca Enriquez as the first dean. After her retirement, Dr. Mariano C. de Jesus took over as the next dean. Later, the Teacher Education Department was named College of Education with Dr. Danilo D. Faustino as the third Dean.
On November 15,   2002, Dr. Danilo D. Faustino was designated to be the Vice President for Academic Affairs while Dr. Mariano C. de Jesus as the Executive Vice President.  The movement of positions gave way to Dr. Luzviminda F. Tantoco who became the fourth dean of the College with Dr. Marlene D. Castillo as the Associate Dean. Other faculty members were designated Student Teaching Supervisors to handle a particular area of specialization.

At present, the College of Education continues to offer the three programs: BSIE, BSEd, and BEEd. Each program is headed by an Area Chairman. In addition, the College of Education also offers the Continuing Professional Teacher Education (CPTE) for degree holders of programs other than education.

The College of Education likewise oversees the operation of the Laboratory High School with Mr. Angel C. Caparas as Principal.

Mission

The College of Education shall primarily provide instruction and training in the Elementary, Secondary and Industrial - Vocational levels of education and Leadership in teacher education.

Goals

The College of Education ensures the attainment of empowered and competitive graduates through:

1. Provision of graduates competitive with international standards of quality and excellence;
2. Generation and transmission of knowledge in the discipline relevant and responsive to dynamically changing domestic and international environment;
3. Provision of equitable access of education opportunities to deserving and qualified clienteles;
4. Optimization of social and individual returns and benefits derived from utilization of resources.

1. To provide general education to students for them to appreciate human ideas and values, develop in them critical thinking, research capability, creativity and good work habits.
2. To provide professional education to develop students’ skills in applying methods and techniques in teaching vital for effective and efficient delivery of instruction.
3.  To promote co-curricular activities for the development of personal discipline, leadership and responsible membership in society.

Objectives - Bachelor of Secondary Education

1. To provide high quality academic instruction for personal development.
2. To provide career and professional readiness to the advancing information technology.
3. To equip the learner with relevant knowledge skills for a life of service to humanity.
4. To cultivate the spirit of inquiry so that prospective secondary teachers may become effective agents of change both in the school and in the community.
5. To become familiar with the different principles, philosophical outlooks, theories, methods and techniques that will equip the learner in his area of specialization.

Objectives - Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education

1. To provide relevant specialized education and training to develop competencies in the chosen field of concentration in the academic, work oriented or industrial-vocational courses.
2. To provide broad general education that would enable students to develop critical thinking, research capability, creativity and desirable work habits,
3. To equip students with knowledge and skills necessary for successful entrepreneurial activities.
4. To promote co-curricular activities that will enhance the development of personal discipline, effective and satisfying personal and family life and responsible citizenship.
5. To develop a new breed of educators sensitive to the technological changes and effect global competitiveness.
