| Alumni Instruction
- The Graduate School sees to it that only qualified faculty members
are assigned to teach courses within their line of expertise.
- Only full-pledged doctor's degree holder with adequate experiences
and exposures relevant to his work are assigned to teach courses
in the doctoral programs.
- Faculty members with at least master’s degree and adequate
experiences and exposures relevant to their work are assigned to
courses in the master’s programs.
- Faculty members with specialized skills are assigned to teach
in the master’s level courses that require demonstration of
technical knowledge and expertise.
- The services of highly qualified lecturers are sought as resource
mentors in special topics to enrich learning experiences in certain
courses.
- The Graduate School Administration sees to it that every faculty member
strives to maintain quality instruction.
- There should be wider participation of faculty members and practitioners
in defining the course content as inputs to the course description
of each subject in every program.
- Course descriptions should be the bases in the development of
syllabi and other instructional materials.
- Faculty members should keep their syllabi updated with clear course
objectives, relevant topics, and bibliographies of recent editions
before they are shared with the students at the opening of the school
term.
- Faculty members enjoy academic freedom in knowledge transmission.
In this regard, the professor is given the liberty to adopt appropriate
delivery system in the classroom. In like manner, the students are free
to express their views and positions on certain issues provided such
are relevant to the lessons.
- Every faculty member should attend to his class regularly. S/He is
expected to check students’ attendance and takes appropriate action
against those who go beyond the allowable number of absences as provided
for in this handbook.
- Faculty members are allowed to conduct out-of-classroom activities
for purposes of enriching students’ learning experience, provided
they are granted permission by the Graduate School dean. These activities
are the responsibility of the faculty concern and must not be held without
his/her presence.
- Holding of colloquia, symposia, and fora at least once every school
term is encouraged.
- Every faculty member regardless of academic rank and employment status
is expected to present position paper or lectures on current trends
and issues of educational concern before a colloquium, symposium, forum
or any medium of transmission.
- Every faculty member is given the liberty to evaluate student’s
performance objectively. Submission of grade sheets is two weeks after
the final examinations.
Research
- Graduate School professors and students are expected to conduct studies
on their areas of specialization.
- To facilitate the conduct for the study and ensure administrative
support, the professor research in enjoined to present a research
proposal for consideration by a committee organized for the purpose.
- In the case of student-researcher, the research output should
be presented before a committee composed of selected faculty members
of the Graduate School.
- The research topic aligns with the research priorities of the BSU
and Graduate School Research Centre.
- Qualitative (anthropological/ethnographic) studies are encouraged
to probe into socio-psychodimension of life in a particular ecology.
In these regards, the Graduate School Administration will facilitate
the conduct of the study by coordinating with the external agencies.
- The Graduate School Administration will work out for financial assistance
for the researchers approved research proposal. Such assistance may
be disbursed according to the disbursement policies of the funding agency.
- The research output of the professors shall be presented before a
colloquium for graduate students, faculty and the public when appropriate.
- The research output automatically becomes the property of the Graduate
School Research Centre.
Extension Service
- Graduate School faculty and students are enjoined to get involved
in community extension projects that the Graduate School Student Council
(GSSC) spearheads.
- Agenda for the extension service are set according to database information.
- The Graduate School Administration leaves to sponsoring groups of
graduate students the discretion to select the intended beneficiaries
and the schemes with which to reach out to the needs of the target clientele.
This however, necessitates prior arrangements with the Dean's Office
for information purposes and submission of written report of accomplishment.
Graduate School Committee
- There should be a Graduate School Committee composed of the Vice President
for Academic Affairs who acts as the chairman, the Graduate School Dean
and graduate faculties as members.
- The Graduate School Committee acts the governing body. As such, the
committee has the responsibility to review, modify or change the curriculum
of each Graduate School program to make it more responsive to the needs
of the clientele.
- The Graduate School Committee acts on the following administrative
matters:
- Comprehensive examinations, their mechanics and administration;
- Organization of thesis/dissertation committees to ensure quality
of research output.
- Review of existing policies on program requirements, admission,
retention, and transfer;
- Review of existing programs towards relevance and improvements;
- Policies on faculty recruitment and placement; and Other matters
pertinent to the operation of Graduate School.
Student Organization
- There should be a Graduate School Committee composed of the Vice President
for Academic Affairs who acts as the chairman, the Graduate School Dean
and graduate faculties as members.
- There should be one mother organisation where all the Graduate School
students are members. All other organizations though independent of
each other are under the umbrella of the mother organization.
- As much as possible, Graduate School activities like colloquium, symposia,
and professional lectures; for and other socio-cultural activities should
be sponsored by recognized Graduate School organizations.
Alumni
- The Graduate School should keep in touch with its graduates. It should
facilitate the formation of Graduate School Alumni Association.
- As partner of the Graduate School Administration, The Graduate School
Alumni Association participates in activities where its assistance and
services are needed. It also initiates certain activities that would
enhance the attainment of the goals and objectives of the Graduate School.
