LEARN CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE AT CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE IN BULACAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Mandarin, according to some definition, is a category of related Chinese dialects spoken across most of the northern and south-western China. As the language is most widely used, nowadays, it is considered as the most spoken language around the world, followed by Spanish and English. The ability to speak and understand Chinese words and characters gives a lot of benefits, such as an opportunity to work in an environment where in Chinese language is considered as the major means of communication. The need to study Mandarin continuously arises due to the rising tide of China’s growing economic strength.
The Confucius Institute at Bulacan State University offers course program for individuals or groups who want to study Mandarin as their second language.
- Individual Course Program
The course is designed for working people who wants to study Mandarin and yet too busy to attend a normal classroom discussion. Time schedule can be arranged at the time convenient for the learner and the pace of lessons will depend on the comprehension of the student. Individual course program can also be applied for small group of people who wants to study Mandarin.
- Beginner to Advanced classes
The course program includes intensive course, introductory courses, full year courses and advanced courses.
- Chinese as part of a degree of the undergraduate students
Learning Chinese finds its way to the students of the College of Social Science and Philosophy and Industrial Engineering of the College of Engineering. The course has become a part of the curriculum of the degree.
The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK)
The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi also referred as HSK is the China’s only standardized test of Standard Mandarin Chinese Proficiency for non – native speakers, namely foreign students, overseas Chinese and members of ethnic minority groups in China. It is also known as the “Chinese Proficiency Test” and the “Chinese TOEFL”. Originally conceptualized in Beijing Language and Culture University in 1984 and made officially as the Chinese Standardized Test in 1992, there are over 120 countries who had participated in the said exam.
In the Philippines, the Ateneo de Manila University is the only testing center for HSK. On May 30, 2009, the first batch of faculty took the HSK exam and luckily, all passed the exam with flying colors. The result gives the administration of the CI at BSU to make further steps on becoming the next HSK test center in the Philippines.

On February 1, Confucius Institute Director Li Yang and all Chinese staffs and some foreigners were invited to attend celebration of Chinese 2011 New Year at Mandarin Oriental Hotel sponsored by Chinese embassy.2月5日，菲律宾布拉卡大学孔子学院走进马里亚诺马科斯大学，进行网络孔子学院的推广活动，包括马里亚诺马科斯大学校长Miriam E.Pascua女士在内的约200名师生参加了此次活动。推广活动的主要内容有介绍网络孔子学院、基础汉语教学、中国算盘介绍、中文歌曲学唱、中国民族音乐欣赏、中国太极拳表演等。在进行以上活动的同时，穿插了多项互动内容，吸引了在场的师生踊跃参加。此外，布拉卡大学孔子学院还向马科斯大学赠送了有汉语学习的音像资料，并向在场参与互动的师生赠送了精美的中国书画及中国山水挂历（2.5）
On February 5, Confucius Institute at Bulacan State University went to Mariano Marcos State University for online Confucius Institute Global Promotion. Over 200 people including Miriam E.Pascua, president of Mariano Marcos State University attended the activity. The promotion can be divided in to some parts as follows: introduction of online Confucius Institute, basic Chinese teaching, introduction of Chinese abacus, Chinese songs teaching, Chinese folk songs and Chinese Tai-Ji. In addition, Confucius Institute donated some videos for Chinese learning and some calendars about Chinese calligraphy and landscape.
