Guidance and Counselling Services Office

The guidance services is the formalized action of the University to make guidance operational and available to the University populace. The program of the guidance center is organized and coordinated with other programs across colleges to complement with the other educational endeavors. The GCSO personnel work with the students, parents, faculty, administrations and other support personnel to operationalize their collective efforts with comprehensive objectives based on the specific needs.


1. Functions:

  1. Develops and implements an effective guidance and counseling program in the campus;
  2. Provides opportunities for maximum development of the whole individual physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually.
  3. Assists students to explore potentialities and make full use of such to achieve their goals;
  4. Develops an information system about the guidance and counseling services offered to clientele;
  5. Develops programs that will maximize guidance and counseling services for the different academic units;
  6. Provides consultancy to parents, teachers, and administrators concerning the growth and development of students;
  7. Coordinates the total guidance program in the different colleges for continuous and meaningful sequence of services.

2. Services

  1. Individual Inventory Service- The GCSO gathers, utilizes personal, psychological, social, and other data on students in developing related student program and services.

  2. Information Service- The GCSO provides students with a greater knowledge of educational, occupational, personal and social opportunities so they can make intelligent choices and decisions in an increasingly complex society.

  3. Counseling Services- The GCSO assists students in exploring their feelings, value perceptions, interpersonal relationship, fears and life’s choice. In so doing he will understand himself/herself better to become a self-directed individual.

  4. Testing Service- The GCSO administers test to obtain a measure of the student’s abilities, achievements and other characteristic, to predict future performance, diagnose problems and learning difficulties of the students.

  5. Placement Service- The GCSO assists student in selecting and utilizing opportunities within the University and the labor market that will enhance his/her development. In-school placement involves the placement of students in curricular and co-curricular programs of each college to meet their needs for personal adjustment and development.

  6. Referral Service- The GCSO refers an individual to another person or agency either within or outside the school for the purpose of specialized assistance.

  7. Follow-up Service- The GCSO conducts follow-up to determine the individual is properly placed and the opportunities presented are appropriate for him/her.

  8. Other Services- Peer counseling/Facilitating Program, Effective study Habits and Skills Workshop, Free Lunch project, Research and Extension Services.
