Budget hearing @ The House of Representatives

This conference aimed to discuss the detailed use for the total budget of P691.1 billion pesos. This sum is made up of the combined budgets of the Department of Education (DepED) with P613.1 Billion, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) with P13.5 Billion, and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) with P64.6 Billion.

The budget for education shall be used to finance the construction of 47,000 classrooms, repair and rehabilitation of 18,000 classrooms, procurement of 84,781 school seats, creation of 81,100 teaching positions, and the provision of additional assistance and subsidies to students and teachers. Also, the education budget shall be used for the Unified Financial Assistance System (UniFAST) and the PHP 4.8 Billion Tulong Dunong Program.

Joining Dr. Gascon in this budget hearing is Vice President for Finance, Administration, and Resource Generation Dr. Jaime P. Pulumbarit, Budget Officer Nenita B. Chico, Merirose R. Musca, and Anacleta B. Santos. Student Regent and Supreme Student Council President Ninna Angela Arambulo and her Communications Officer John Rey Ramirez also attended the conference. The meticulous session focused on even the smallest of details which led to the representatives from both the Congress and SUCs to push through with the hearing way into the unholy hours of the night. The session was finally concluded in the morning of September 7, 2017.
